Repopulation Program
LOAD 009 dbl-LP/CD

You'll not see a wider variety of bands on too many compilations. This CD has some of the heavy hitters about town: DropDead, with their power-violence thrash, Thee Hydrogen Terrors give the big round rock a rumpus, Purple Ivy Shadows feed you morphine milkshakes to take you to the clouds, and the Royal Crowns give you a little of their p-rock fortified Eisenhower shuffle.
Besides this there are Ashley Von Hurter and the Haters (with an amazing VKTMS cover), Whisper-a- Threat with their blistering art-thrash attack, Medicine Ball squelch out a Big Star like tale over coffee. All this interspersed with found sound clips from Providence area cinema. There's even a scary song by Plymouth Rock about a guy who gets a little excited about an old sound effects record. This isn't so much a regional compilation (which it is for the Providence area), as a beautifully put together package (done at the swank and defunct Fort Thunder). This is available on double LP (with a bonus cut from the Followers) and digitally accurate CD. Repopulation Program is the successor to the highly successful Bitter Pill to Swallow compilation from 1993.
Some words about this from others:
"As in many a collection whose primary purpose is showcasing talent from a particular area, Repopulation Program is a notably mixed bag stylistically. Documenting, and intending thereby to promote Providence, RI undierock scene, this compilation embraces unexpectedly arcane and diverse aesthetics.
Lotsa feisty, frustrstion-laden, odd-sock bits here: high concentration wackitude-for-its-own-sake, i.e. abstruse songs played noisily with uglitude being expressed a major concern. More straightforward songs embrace kooky lyric conceits: lionizing a midget boyfriend coz he can lap dew while he and the singer of the song in question remain upright; dude singing about getting hot listening to a woman screaming under torture as depicted on a sound FX record. Zany."
